IGK1500 depicted example

The International Map of Europe and the mediterranean regions 1 : 1 500 000 shows the European geology on 45 map sheets.

In 1881 the 2nd International Geological Congress decided to publish this map and engaged the Prussian Geological Institute with the production. In 1913 the first edition was complete with 49 sheets.
In 1910 the revision of the map series was concluded, but only 12 sheets were published up to 1959 due to the two world wars.
In the years 1960 to 1969 the combined 2nd and 3rd edition was re-edited and published until 1999.
