Tasks and Fields of Research

  • Concepts and technologies for the remediation of contaminated sites in old mines
  • Development of remediation concepts for in-situ immobilization of uraniferous pore waters
  • Improvement of groundwater management and protection in developing and emerging countries (e.g. Vietnam)
  • Occurrence and distribution of geogenic pollutants (in particular arsenic, uranium, radionuclides) in drinking water-relevant groundwater resources

Current Projects

  • Evaluation and appraisal of the Wismut GmbH remediation project
  • MOVE iRn: Investigation of the mobility behaviour of radionuclides (U, Ra) for the optimisation of remediation technologies for radiogen-contaminated pore waters
  • GeoRad - Geogenic radionuclides in near-surface groundwater resources: process understanding and risk assessment using national and international case studies
