The sector programme "Extractives and Development" provides political and strategic advice to the BMZ, in particular to the Sector Unit Energy, Hydrogen, Extractives, Infrastructure, as well as supports to shape international processes in line with German development policy in the extractives sector. In addition to providing permanent ad-hoc advice to the BMZ, the strategic analysis of the extractive sector with reference to developing countries and the development of sustainable concepts for development cooperation in the extractive sector are essential parts of the work. These analyses and concepts and the insights gained from them underpin the qualified advisory services provided to the BMZ. In addition, contributions relevant to development policy are made to international processes, committees and networks. The specific topics addressed by the sector programme are subject to the criterion of demand orientation from partner countries, German development policy and international cooperation forums. Thematic focuses are in particular the topics of environment/climate/energy, local value addition and sustainable supply chains.
